I’ve got my laptop back!

post-thumb

About a few months ago I invested in a laptop, and now a days many people has some form of laptop, it could be a work laptop which is given to you in your job or your own personal laptop which you at home and around the house. I purchased a second hand laptop a few months ago, but not for either reasons I listed above, you see I had managed to get a legal copy of Windows Vista Ultimate from a website that is a Microsoft product reseller and sells software to students but at really low prices

The website is called Software4Students and is available to UK and Ireland residents it's a great site and you really should check it out as well as selling Operating Systems at low prices they also sell products like Microsoft Office 2007 for a low price of £55.69 if I was being modest I'd say "Thats cheap" if I was being realistic I'd say "Fuck me thats a bargain!"

Anyway im sure Software4Students are happy I gave them a mention, but it's really starting to sound like some big ad for them. Like I said I invested in a laptop a few months ago and bought a second hand Toshiba Equium M40x-230, it's a quite popular model and as I told you in my Epic eBay adverture I went hunting for a new screen replacement and found that many toshiba laptops where being sold on eBay, anyway to cut to the chase I hunted down a screen replacement and could finally use my laptop properly as it had a nice black vortex in the screen before hand, so I was using my PC monitor externally to display my laptop screen, but one good thing about that. 27" Laptop screen!

But finally I got my laptop fixed and it's usable on it's own now. I first blogged about me getting my hands on Windows Vista Ultimate and installing it on my laptop but wasn't able to use it properly (due to the screen) but now I can have fun with Vista and see what it's all about and I've got say, wow. Seriously, despite what people have said saying "Oh Vista is rubbish" I completely disagree. People said that Vista gets the BSOD (Blue Screen of death) all the time but I've had Windows Vista installed for several months and not had one BSOD. Infact just the other week my XP machine (Which is my desktop) had a BSOD because of a failure in the win32k.sys file, and thats rare as my desktop is stable and has had the BSOD about twice in it's 4 year life time.

Anyway here's some lovely pictures of Vista in action:

Really cool James! Happy you got it back :D

Awsome post aswell, those photos are making me drool when i'm still on XP :P The best effect i can get comparable to that is the Google Sidebar and it's transparency

I'm on the coathanger as to whether to spend now and get vista or save and either a) wait till W7 comes out or b) invest in a new computer...

HAHAHAHA!! James uses the kitten avatar in vista!!! LMAO!!

Oh, and you have the same laptop as my grandma, but there's has better specs since I went through up upgraded it all.

I use a DELL Inspiron 1501, it has it's faults (like capping at 2gb of ram while I have over 5gb sitting on my bookshelf) and the harddrive is loud and small (I've since replaced it with a WD 500gb Scorpio Blue).

@Andrew: I say just upgrade to the Win7 beta. It's very stable and plus it's free.

Im not a strong believer in installing operating systems that are in beta (Even if you create a seperate partion). It maybe be pre-judging, but referring to a personal choice I chose to upgrade to Vista after Service pack 1 came out, as I read about some of the problems people had been experiencing. Now I understand some of these problems we're due to hardware etc.. But Vista did have some bugs in it, and microsoft excepted it. The point im getting at is I choose to wait till a Operating System has been out on the market for a while instead of jumping into a complete new OS straight away. And if you have patience many of the bugs and issues that people have been having are fixed in service pack updates (Which is how Microsoft runs the show) or in other forms.

And Fire G your comment about my Logon Avatar. I like cats, so of course it's going to be a kitten. Not embrassed or ashamed, I like cats. And im glad my laptop is the same as your Grandma's, I feel a special bond has been established

@Andrew: LOL, there's nothing wrong with cats (I have one) just didn't see James as the Cat loving type! and No, My grandma isn't on Win7, she'd probably still be using Win2000 if I hadn't convinced her to upgrade to atleast XP.

I used to have a pet cat and loved it to bits and still do <3 and very much hope she's in cat heaven. I remember Windows 2000 very stable better than the likes of Windows ME.

I have a copy of Win 95 right through to XP. I even found a windows 3.1 disc around, now you can't get any better than Windows 3.1!
