Well recently my posts have been about computers and technology, and this one is no different, I've mainly been playing around with hardware and tech stuff recently so I thought I'd get a trend going. Over time of using Windows XP I've slowly started to really hate the Windows XP Theme you know the theme where you have a big blue task bar with a green start button, since Windows 95 the taskbar really hasn't changed much but I've always thought it was fine as it is, so why fix something which is not broken, but recently I've gone back to the classic theme of windows that you would find as default in Windows 95, 98 or 2000. Maybe it was just some slow realisation but I honestly have switched back to Windows Classic on Windows XP
I did some research into the development of Windows XP and found that the default Windows XP theme (The one that I call fisher price styled) was actually spur of the moment change. In actual fact the taskbar was going to be just like the previous version of Windows which at the time was Windows 2000/NT but someone involved in the development of Windows XP thought that the product wouldn't sell as well. So Microsoft decided to change the taskbar with "pretty" blue and green colours. Im sorry but whoever suggested this. WHAT WE'RE YOU THINKING?! Here's a quite obvious comparison:
Windows Classic Start Menu
Windows Classic Start Menu (With Windows XP Menu Format and organisation)
Windows XP Start Menu
I mean alright the Windows XP look does give a bit more colour to the taskbar and start menu but it makes it look proper bloated and really looks like a fisher price lets have fun with grandma toy, and even though it's minor by using Windows XP default theme you will be using up more resources than if you we're using Classic Theme. But to there credit how Windows XP Start menu displays your menu items is very well ordered and is much better than Windows Classic Menu.
Im properly starting to hate it because Im quite used to the Windows Classic Theme. For example, in my college the computers on the network all have the Windows XP Professional installed but have the Windows Classic theme. This has been done for security issues without a doubt (Helping limit access to administrative settings etc) but over time I've got used to it and having the theme set as Windows Classic on my desktop Im used to it and am starting to like it more than the fisher price styled theme. I could also see groups of people like server technicians agreeing with me, because if someone's been in the server business for a while and has been working with servers and networks since the early era of Windows NT, then the whole classic theme will be very suited to them when there working in Command Prompt etc.
Now having Windows Classic in Windows Vista is a different story, for one why the hell would you have it set by user choice. If you paid for any of the vista versions besides Basic (Because lets face it Vista is pretty expensive) you will get Windows Aero, the new User Interface and by setting Windows Classic on Vista, you lose one of the major reasons why you would upgrade to Vista. There is of course Windows Vista Basic, and this is the non aero but still Vista style theme. But yeah we're not talking about Vista!

Windows classic (IMO) is faster.

You are absolutely correct, Windows Classic is faster because it doesn't use as much GUI stuff as the 'Fisher Price' Windows XP style, hence there is less load.
Just a FYI for all im still on Windows Classic on my XP machine. I don't think im going back!

Bravo, good sir.
XP classic keeps an os's color scheme like it should be: in gray scale, so the things you are looking at have a chance to shine.
