Fixing the ttf-mscorefonts package in Ubuntu 9.10

post-thumb

Ubuntu 9.10 since it's release has caused quite a storm in the linux community both good and bad. While Ubuntu 9.10 is the latest and greatest release of the Linux distro there have been a few slight issues with Ubuntu 9.10. One of the problems I've had with the Ubuntu 9.10 is with a package called mscorefonts. This package contains Windows fonts such as Arial and Impact that are used in such programs such as Wine, the Windows compatibility layer that allows you to install and run windows applications in Ubuntu. Problem is a lot of people have had problems with this package not being able to obtain the fonts from the download mirrors provided. Read more to fix this problem.

If your someone who doesn't always use Windows then chances are your a Linux user too. Linux with it's many distrubutions and open source lovelyness has recently seen the popular distribution Ubuntu hit the 9.10 mark with it's latest release called Karmic Koala! I've only been using Ubuntu since 9.04 and only for a few months but Im finding it really fun and a great alternative to Windows, especically when Windows is in one of those 'doze' moods and decides to do everything but the command you give it. I was able to get my hands on a genuine copy of Windows 7 Professional and had some time to install it onto my Compaq Presario Laptop. So after slightly annoying people with "OMG I HAS WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL" I decided to show you guys a machine running Windows 7 Professional that isn't the BETA, RC1 or RC2.

Review of the Compaq Presario CQ60-307 Laptop

post-thumb

A week ago I posted about my brand new laptop which I had recently got, now that I've had a couple of weeks to play around with it and test it out I thought I'd make detailed review of the product. This review is for the Presario CQ60-307, I am aware that there are different revisions of the laptop with slightly different specifications, but generally they are all similar to each other. First impressions of the laptop are really good. It is styled well and though it is larger than many laptops out there the weight is quite reasonable too. Read more for the full review.

Well a couple of weeks ago my toshiba decided to give up the ghost and the screen internally failed, the screen has already been replaced once and it's a few years old now, so I think it was time for upgrade, though I must say my dad actually bought me my new laptop! Out of the blue too. I was planning to save up for a new one once I found a job, but my dad asked me where my laptop was one weekend and I said the screens gone again, and then last week out of the blue decided just came out with "oh yeah son im buying you a new laptop" shock wasn't the word. So thanks Dad! Even though I didn't stop saying thank you all the way through the store when we bought it! So for the past two weeks me and my Dad have been Laptop hunting and in the end found the Compaq Presario CQ60 as a great choice!
